Looking for a specific book published before 1999...?
I'm looking for the name of a book I read a LONG time ago (more than a decade) in elementary school. I just have little tid bits I can remember about it so if anyone could put the pieces together and come up with a title I would greatly appreciate it! --Facts-- * Takes place in Michigan * Kids travel back in time (from modern days) to the days of Native Americans * A canoe is possibly on the cover or is their way of transport back in time * Involves the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes as they discover them/play on them and fall asleep and travel back in time that way. That's all I can remember. I hope someone can help!

- Is it The Legend of Sleeping Bear (featured here: http://www.amazon.com/Legend-Sleeping-Bear-Kathy-Jo-Wargin/dp/188694735X) by any chance? It seems to match your description, though the latest edition does not have a canoe on the cover.
- "Three Rivers Crossing" by Robert A Lytle "A swift current pulls seventh-grader Walker under while he is fly-fishing in Stony Creek. When he regains consciousness after being rescued, he discovers he has been transported back in time to the 1820s village of his forebears, the Stony Creek Village settlement. Trapped in history, he tries to figure out what, if anything, can get him back to his own time and life. Meanwhile, he discovers being trapped is not so terrible. His "family" is loving and caring, and he develops a deep bond with their son Daniel. Lytle does a fine job of delineating the difference between children's lives then and now, and gives Walker a sense of accomplishment and pride in the tasks of pioneering the first community. Walker does get back to where he belongs, but only after readers are given plenty of time to become acquainted with the past."
