Mentally Il Parent???

I`m bipolar. I`ve been diagnosed for 3 years, and I`m medicated . The problem is I do have the occasional slip up in my behaviour, ( I talk to myself and I rage), as a result of rapid cycling.. my doctors are still working on it as far as controlling my symptoms..My questions is, how do other mentally ill parents cope? How do they deal with other parents, like when their kid`s friends want to come over to sleep? I can barely cope with my own.How about the isolation, my neighbours hate me.

  1. I suggest that besides meds, you are in counseling or a support group. They can help you cope and come up with strategies to help. I work with youth and some are bipolar. They are all engaged in therapy and support groups. It helps them deal with the issues outside of what their meds can do for them. You will, also, have others who will understand your problems and you will feel less isolated. If you don't know where to find such help, ask your doctor or cal you local social services to find out! Good luck!
