My car slid into a river not all the way but enough for it to stop running it wants to start.. help?

Soo my 1996 honda civic hatchback slid into a river not all the way but enough for it to stop running. The oil pan has been drained and fresh oil in it also the air filter has been changed. It does want to start it is very close to starting. I was wondering if getting rid of the gas thats in it and maybe doing the oil again would help and if not what will? Thanx

  1. Best thing to do is take apart the clinder heads and make sure there is no water left behind. The battery might also be dead if the car sounds like its about to turn over.
  2. Check spark plugs, drain all gas, and make sure water didnt get sucked up through air filter
  3. pull out the spark plugs--see if engine will turn over-might have water in 1 or more cylinders--water will not compress in the cylinder--if the engine turns over but just does not crank-you may need new plugs -be sure to change oil
  4. Try changing the plugs and checking the cap and rotor too see if its dry if its corroded clean it with emery cloth it should starthope that helps :)
  5. I would pull the plugs try to vaccum any water out of the cylinders since that will make it not wanna fire and pull off the dist cap and blow the dist and the cap out with air and pull apart all the electerical connectors blow them out really good and apply dialectric grease to them.your gas should be fine since the fuel system is sealed.when u pull the plugs it would also be a good idea to spray wd-40 in the plug holes since its really good at displacing moisture check all fuses too to make sure something didn't short out
