Any Scousers or Brits been to lovely Liverpool, Pennsylvania, USA? GREAT river view, huntin, shootin, fishin? Any Scousers been to Liverpool, Penn, US? Welcome to Liverpool, Perry County, Pennsylvania Liverpool is located on the west bank of the Susquehanna River about 30 miles north of Harrisburg, the Pennsylvania State Capital. Originally laid out in 1808, Liverpool served as a hub of business activity for the Pennsylvania canal through the 1800's. Today, US Routes 11&15 have replaced the Canal as the major north/south transportation artery Liverpool still hosts many historic buildings and is a bedroom community for the state capital of Harrisburg. Liverpool offers recreation opportunities that include world class bass fishing in the Susquehanna River, easy access to Little Buffalo State Park, hiking, camping, canoeing and skiing in the Poconos and Pennsylvania Highlands to the north, is close to metropolitan centers of Harrisburg to the south and Williamsport to the north. Numerous higher education facilities are within commuting distance in the Harrisburg area to the south, to the North in Selinsgrove, Bloomsburg, Lewisburg, Williamsport and Lock Haven. http://www.liverpoolpa.us/Pages/Home.aspx Hi *1 What's yer name & wur d'ya come from? Backcountry camping/hiking/kayaking? Every year, a few friends and I take an adventure trip down the buffalo river. It's protected as a wildlife reserve, much of it being infested by cougars, wolves, coyotes and bears. You can even hear the coyotes and wolves as you try to sleep. I've never encountered danger, but it seems close by. We never bring protection against predators. We hunt for big rocks and driftwood to build our fire pit, and camp primitive style. Most of our food always needs ice. This year we want to lengthen our trip (two of us are vegetarians) what should we do to be better prepared? Some canoe and most if us kayak so we pack light (and water proof) . And we'd like to be prepared. Any tips? Recipes, defense, and camping tips etc, are all appreciated!
Where can I camp within 2 hours of Chicago that will let me be away from everyone? My girlfriend and I want to find a place, that is 2 hours or less from Chicago, to go camping away from everyone. We want to be able to camp next to a river with great fishing, maybe take a canoe or kayak, start a fire at the camp site and live in nature for the weekend. Just getting away from everything. We looked into all of the camp grounds from Chicago to New Buffalo, but every place has plots where you are with other campers. Please let me know if you have been there and what you think. We can't wait to go exploring. Don't think the governor will let me camp in his backyard, but thanks. You can go off of the plots to explore, but you can't set up camp. I know this from experience. Tichur that was a very good response, and we will definitely look into Tower Hill. It also made me think to expand my search. Instead of 2 hours, is there anywhere within 5 hours that we can go? Hopefully this will spark many more responses.
Back Country hiking/campingin ? Every year I take a two day trip down the buffalo. It's a wildlife reserve and there are cougars, wolves, coyotes, bears... You name it. It's Northern American wild at it's finest. Every year we float down the river two days. We camp, hunt for big rocks and wood to build our own fire, cook whatever food we've brought, and camp primitive style. Recently I've felt like this year should be different. We never bring protection agains predators. Just the fire. We also never bring a phone or gps. We have food that always has to be on ice. We want to begin to lengthen our journey down this majestic river. What are some precautions we can take? Should we bring a weapon to cut wood and protect ourselves? What about foods that don't go bad over the course of a few days? We pack light because a few of use canoe and some of us kayak. And we have to make sure it's all waterproofed in case we turn over on a rapid. Any advice for me??
Information at Canoeing on the Buffalo River in Arkansas? I'm planning a week's vacation in Arkansas. 2 of those days we will be a 2-day canoeing trip on the Buffalo River. I plan on setting out on Steel Creek, stopping and making camp around Kyle's Landing, then continuing down to Pruitt Landing the next day. There will be several of us going. Any tips or suggestions? Also, will someone please explain to me how and what I am suppose to look for regarding water levels, etc. And keep in mind I know nothing about it. So please explain thoroughly. Also, what other activities would be fun in Arkansas. Be specific. Like instead of saying cave exploring...say cave exploring at ((BLANK)) cave. And what local towns and sites would be good for a group of young adults to visit? (they probably won't be interested in history and museums)
