What is the best place to Vacation during the Summer In Colorado? My Dad had a stroke earlier this year and we want to get a away for a nice family vacation. Parents are 60 and My bro and I are 31, and 27. So our interests would include hiking, fishing, canoeing, maybe whitewater rafting.... and just relaxing! We plan on staying in a cabin during June :) Thanks!!
Whitewater kayaking question? I live a few miles from a river called Fish Creek (in NY) and it is known for some of the best/most challenging whitewater in the state. The upper part has several class 3+, a few class 4 rapids, one class 5 and one class 6. Its intense. There is a dam however that kind of slows the river down because the highest level rapid after the dam is a class 3+. This is where we would start. I have never WHITEWATER KAYAKED before. I have been Whitewater rafting a couple times and I go kayaking/canoeing all the time just nothing higher than class 2 (technically making it whitewater). I am very physically fit and I love challenges, its why I get up in the morning. I own an Old Town Otter (bottom of the line closed-cockpit) and it doesnt even have foot braces. WILL I BE ABLE TO HANDLE CLASS 2-3+ RAPIDS WITH THIS CRAFT? I am not worried about myself, I just dont want to try something with equipment that isnt suitable. I know they make special whitewater kayaks that cost thousands, with one of those I wouldnt hesitate to try any level rapid. Will my otter make it? Why, why not? Any other suggestions/advice greatly appreciated! Thanks! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Im not taking any advice from a Dutchmen....
What canoe is best for rivers? I'm looking to buy a canoe that will be used for rivers. Most of the time the rivers are lazy and deep, but we do go through some whitewater and shallow areas with rocks. I'm looking for something for 2 adults and gear for an overnight trip. Any suggestions?
Outward Bound Question? I am about to go on an outward bound course (backpacking and whitewater canoeing) the day after tomorrow and am a little anxious. I wanted to start my training in june, but I got sick and only walked like three times that month. This month, I've walked for about half an hour a day, half of the time with a 30 pound backpack. I've done just about one hundred crunches a day. I don't know if that's enough... And, I used to weigh 255 pounds (pretty heavy, but I am over six feet - still no excuse) and I went down in June and July to about 235, but over the past two weeks I went up to 240 - is that muscle? My basic question is - am I screwed? The course is eight days long, three to backpacking, three to canoeing, one for solo, and one for training.... It said that it was designed to challenge people in regular shape and that they're not looking for athletes. But, it would help. My parents tell me that I'll have fun, but I don't know; again, am I screwed?
are there any canoe trips in Sao Paulo, Brazil? I am in SP, Brazil until March 24, 2011 and am looking to kayak or canoe some local rivers. Not necessarily looking for whitewater, more leisurely trips such as one would take in Florida.
Has anybody ever found a sight that gives complete listing on all Americans that where in the Olympics? Look the info on WIKI is incomplete for example if you where to look at the 1972 American team for Munich you wouldn't see any names for Canoe/Kayak. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_at_the_1972_Summer_Olympics Yet James McEwan won a bronze in Men's SLALOM C1 (SINGLE CANOE WHITEWATER) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canoeing_at_the_1972_Summer_Olympics USOC has no archives for a list of American athletic delegation going back to past Olympics , Team sport federations seem to do the best job as they give a good detail of info, smaller Olympic sporting federations not so good. Can you always find info on those that won medals from IOC , but not a list of all the competitors or at least no to my knowledge. Info on the Web in this regard stops at 1996 for the most part. CORRECTION- YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND INFO ON PAST MEDAL WINNERS AT THE IOC.COM
What are some other fun things to do on a road trip? Me and my friend are going on almost a month long road trip this summer. Here's a list of things we've already planned on doing: *parasailing *jet skiing *whale watching *snorkeling *ziplining *horseback riding *ATVing *canoeing *whitewater rafting *kayaking *and possibly bungee jumping We're going to Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, Washington, Utah and Colorado. My question is, can anyone think of any other fun things to do? (apart from shopping and attractions and stuff like that. I'm looking more for activity ideas.) Thanks in advance!
Adventure seekers!? I'm looking to get away on an adventure trip but would like suggestions. My criteria: I would like it to include something physical like hiking, backpacking, canoeing, canyoneering whitewater rafting etc. I would like it to be relatively close by (within 10 hours of Tucson Arizona), affordable ($1000 tops) and doable over a weekend (no longer than 4 days). I have a camper trailer and I'm willing to tent camp which can keep costs at a minimum if needed.
Missouri or Arkansas Outdoors Activities? I am currently in the process of trying to plan a high adventure in either Arkansas or Missouri for a group of Boy Scouts. (Ages 14-18) The Scouts would like to participate in exciting activities such as whitewater river rafting, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, zip lines, caving, and other "cool" activities. I have requested travel information from both states and have searched the internet, but have had no success and need your input. (The information they provided was general and had no helpful websites or tips.) Thanks for the help!!
Canoe/Camping on the river Tay (Scotland) ? Does anybody have a route guide to canoeing the river Tay ? I want to take a small group on an expedition for a few days paddling and camping on the riverbank. Is this possible?, what grades of whitewater will we find ?. I have seen the limited guides on ukriversguide.co.uk, so I need more detail for the long trip. Thanks.

What is the best way to keep gear in a canoe? I'm going canoeing with my dad in the Boundary Waters for a week. I've been canoeing before, but not on a trip like this. We have two 115L dry bags full of gear and I've heard that many people tie them to the inside of the canoe for better stability and bouyancy etc,, but only sometimes. We aren't going whitewater rafting but we do have 5 small sets of rapds. So here are the questions I have: 1.) When do you tie the bags down, and when do you leave them untied 2.) Where should they be placed? Center, or one in the front, one in the back? 3.) What is the best method for tying them in? Is there any other relevant info I need to know about this subject? Thanks!

Recommend a buoyancy aid? Hi there, I am looking for someone to recommend a buoyancy aid because I am on a course at which I become an outdoor instructor when I graduate and that includes Kayaking and Canoeing. I also go on the occasional Kayak trip with my friends. It has to be a good all round B.A. I paddle mainly flat water and rivers but with the occasional whitewater and surf kayaking trip. Thanks for the un-sarcastic answers :-D Marc
Help. Should I get her, forget her, or other? (I know it's extremely long, but please bear through it)? I just graduated high school and have been dating a girl 2 grades below me (She's a year and 9 months younger than me. We started dating in September of 07, at the beginning of the school year. I met her by literally bumping into her. After a few exchanged texts, calls, hangouts, and a kiss, we were dating. Then two months in I didn't think I wanted a long term thing so I tried to break it off. We ended up going on a break and getting back together because I still really liked her. Through the rest of the school year, I occasionally brought up how we should probably break up at the beginning of the summer because I was going away to college in august, and I wouldn't want a long distance relationship. So at the beginning of summer she prepared herself for a break up, but we went on a break for a week and got back together. I noticed she didn't seem to be as affectionate for the rest of the summer. We would hang out, but it seemed like we were more friends than bf/gf. August 20th, she had a talk with me and said we had to break up. She said that when she prepared herself for the breakup, she detached herself from me and hasn't been able to reattach. She hasn't been able to see me as her boyfriend. The problem was that I did not want to break up. Ever since the beginning of summer after the break, I felt a closure with myself in our relationship. I didn't want any more false breakups or breaks; I wanted to be with her in a long commitment, no matter whatever the obstacle was. But she did not feel it was fair to either of us if we stayed together because she didn't have the same feelings towards me, plus I was going away to college (2 1/2 hours away). So we broke up. I was a mess for the next couple days. I devised a plan that would keep me home. The college I was accepted at was Drexel U in phili. I was going to be paying around 27,000 a year. But I figured it would be smarter to stay home and go to a community college for two years taking the same basic courses and then transfer. It is a hell of a lot cheaper. I wanted to stay back home for her, but if it doesn't work out, I'm not going to regret not going to Drexel (Saving money at the Community college) I told her my plan and that I was staying, but she still didn't want to get back together because of the lack of feelings towards me. I asked her if we can try again in a couple of months, and she said maybe, if the feelings came back. Now I want to make sure that you guys know that it wasn't some dumb teenage relationship. Yes the age difference is there and we are both still young, but we had an excellent relationship. We did everything. All the usual couple stuff like movies, dinner, lunch, movies at home, ect. But we also got out a lot too, such as whitewater rafting, hiking several times, ice skating, swimming, canoeing, tubing down a river, (A lot of outdoors stuff). Her family loved me and I thought they were great. One main thing that I found unique about us is that we never said "I love you". We both thought that word was overused and no one understood its meaning. We had an extremely close relationship and never said it. We tried it out for a day, but it just didn't feel right. Maybe this was special, maybe not. I’m not sure. But anyway, I don't want to sound cliché, but we were perfect for each other. Always had a good time, never fought, we were each other’s first time, and had been dating for almost a year. Now I know it is my fault for suggesting several times that we break up. If I hadn't done that I wouldn't be typing right now. But I didn't realize how much I have come to like and want to be with this girl. Now my final question is: What should I do? It's been a week since I have told her I am staying home. Should I wait 2 months and try to get back together? How much should I talk to her? (She still wants to be good friends) Should I just give up? Any advice at all would be great. And if you actually read this novel I wrote above, I commend you for having patience. Any more questions you have that might help you give me advice, just ask! THANK YOU!
Places to camp and canoe in Georgia? I need some recommendations for places where a group can camp and canoe for a weekend. No whitewater rafting; we're looking for a campground close by a scenic waterway that is mostly calm so we can take in the wildlife around us but also has a few rapids navigable by canoe. I've checked different websites (one listed a river on the Georgia coast that had alligators in it; why anyone would want to canoe that is beyond me) but I'd rather have personal recommendations. If you could list how many times you've canoed this waterway and why you are recommending it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Versatile Kayak or Canoe for $300? Looking to buy my first boat...? Well I'm 17 so finance is tight, but I have committed to spending up to $300 for a boat and a little extra for needed accessories. I've been looking all over the place, but my best result right now seems to be the Sea Eagle 330: http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Eagle-Inflatable-Kayak-Package/dp/B000SL0A6A Aside from price, the most important feature I want is versatility. I want to be able to take this boat on different types of water (including lakes, rivers, whitewater) and have it able to perform well in a variety of situations (taking another person, taking a dog, doing a week long camping trip, etc.) So... the Sea Eagle 330 seems perfect, but I am concerned of its durability and performance compared to a hard shell canoe or kayak. Also, the seats are only supported by the sides, not straps attached to the boat. I'm not crazy about having to inflate and deflate it over and over again. It should be noted I do not live on a lake, but I live within a few miles of Lake Erie and many rivers...live in Cleveland and have been checking Craigslist too. Also, please don't suggest I raise my budget more than like $50 if I absolutely need to... What boat should I get? Thanks for your help! -Ariel

Can someone interpret these dreams? Well last night I had two very bizarre dreams and I was wondering what they mean. Dream 1: I was standing outside my school and no one came to pick me up. I was supposed to go to the movies with my friends but decided against it. So a guy driving a blue car comes up and I asked if he could give me a ride and he said he could. When I got in his car smelled like drugs and he was wearing business attire, and was probably about 45. So he took me home and I said, "You know where I live, right?" he did and took me to my dad's. When I walked through the back door, I noticed the man's shoes were in my hand. Just as my dad came out of the basement, I tossed the shoes in the garbage can. My dad asked me, "Were you at the movie theater?" I said, "Yeah, why?" he said, "Okay, just making sure". This is when I woke up. Dream 2: I was in my house trying on bathing suits for a whitewater rafting trip that we and many other people were going on. Later on, it was night and my friend and I were running across a giant field that had a beacon light in it. We did this several times, and then it was morning. We got on a raft, however I fell off before the first rapid and the water was freezing! So I swam back to shore and noticed a giant rusty canoe was hanging from one of the trees. I grabbed it then fell back in the water. Suddenly my friend and one of my favorite cartoon characters (Noodle from Gorillaz) were standing on shore trying to help me flip the canoe over. Once we did, we all hopped on and then went under an old rusty train bridge. The last thing I remember was being about 9 and running down a school hallway with one of my best friends.
