Whitewater Kayaking Trips Knowledge Base
Whitewater kayaking? Okay, a couple friends and myself are planning a trip to Colorado in July for some whitewater kayaking. I was wondering what are some of the best Class III-V rivers in the mountains?? Note: We don't need extremely technical rapids, as we have a person who hasn't been over class III rapids yet lol...
Is there a Las Vegas Colorado Rafting Trip? Hi, I'm going to be on a Las Vegas vacation with my family this summer and we are looking for fun things to do. I read that you can take a Colorado River rafting tour but I forgot to bookmark it. Anyone got any info on this? I'm not interested in kayaking or whitewater trips because my younger sibs are in their tweens.
good kayak trips for beginners? hi, I am trying to plan a kayak trip, for some friends and I in BRITISH COLUMBIA or ALBERTA canada. we are pretty beginner, and want to practice our kayaking (easy whitewater/river) and camp. I guess ideally we are looking for a place to camp near a river, that won;t kill us, so we can hang around our campsite and practice our awesome new skills!! A short trip around there would be nice too, but we are really beginner. Best would be South East BC eg revelstoke, Golden, Fernie, or even Kelowna, but we are looking for all ideas! thanks! ummm, I think you're the stupid one here, considering, I didn't mention water temp, and around here, in the mountains, warm water is pretty hard to come by. Try leaving your house once and a while!
Whitewater Kayak Spray Skirt Questions!? Hey there guys! I have a few questions, well not really questions, more like input! ha-ha! Well anyways, my paddling team is planning a kayak trip to the Dominican Republic! And im a very experienced paddler by the way, im 16 and have been paddling since i was 7 (im a play boater and took first in the rodeo Competition at Reno) so don't try to tell me how Im bad and stuff, cuz i just want opinions. Anyway, right now I have a sponsorship from bomber gear, and they provide really good skirts for us, and that's really all i use (except a snap dragon skirt for my C1) Im really happy with these skirts, I just want a kevlar reinforced cockpit skirt. The Dominican Rapids are the most technical and dangerous rapids in the world (but with incredible holes and play spots) so I need a new skirt. Bomber Dave made a skirt for me with plastic under it. And its handled some pretty heavy hydraulics, but i know I need a kevlar for the DR. So im just wondering your opinions on kevlar skirts, anything will be appreciated! By the way, I paddle a Jackson Allstar for play-boating, and a Jackson Rocker for Creaking (thank you EJ for spons. its really helped me improve) and It needs to fit a large cockpit, and I also have a happy thruster installed, so it will need to go over that. Thanks allot guys! ~Landon Hey man, Im not sponsored by Jackson Kayaks, I said thanks for the Sponsoon (happy thrusters original name) but no, I WISH I had a Sponsorship from JK, but im just on the jackson team right now (hopefully next year good things will happen!) but yeah, your not understanding me, Dane paddles with a Kevlar plated skirt, it has a piece of kevlar under skirt, like right above your thighs, and He says plastic skirts breaks really easy, but he hates his kevlar one, its a customized snap dragon that Eric made for him (i guess thats what you get when your dads the biggest kayak maker in the world! God I wish i was Dane!) and he hates it, i doubt you know who Clay Wright is but he also has a Kev. skirt from a small company named like K16 C or something like that, and loves it, but they discontinued them, and Eric said to try and find out what to get, because hes looking to. So thanks! You just misunderstood me :)
Going outdoors and need protection? In a few months, a some buddies and I are planning a whitewater kayaking trip down some mountains. The thing is, those mountains are known to be home to a number of bears, which is a problem due to the 3 day/2 night plans. I highly doubt we will encounter any such threats, but I just can't shake that nagging feeling of doubt. So, I'm looking into purchasing a knife to protect myself. I'm not sure if it would do any good against a bear in a real fight/flight situation, but it would sure make me sleep a little better at night. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good brand? I've heard good things about Bowie and Ka-Bar knives, but I'm still to inexperienced to know anything much about them.
are there any canoe trips in Sao Paulo, Brazil? I am in SP, Brazil until March 24, 2011 and am looking to kayak or canoe some local rivers. Not necessarily looking for whitewater, more leisurely trips such as one would take in Florida.
Recommend a buoyancy aid? Hi there, I am looking for someone to recommend a buoyancy aid because I am on a course at which I become an outdoor instructor when I graduate and that includes Kayaking and Canoeing. I also go on the occasional Kayak trip with my friends. It has to be a good all round B.A. I paddle mainly flat water and rivers but with the occasional whitewater and surf kayaking trip. Thanks for the un-sarcastic answers :-D Marc
Who has been to more than one of these places? Bali, Koh Samui, and Vietnam? I am taking a trip out to Asia and am planning on going to a tropical area for about a week...I have probably narrowed things down to these three places. I am a 29-year old, single male and am going to be down there with a buddy of mine....so what we are looking for is a place that has a really good nightlife scene...but also has amazing beaches, lots of outdoor/adventure activities (ie - hiking, mountains, whitewater rafting/kayaking, ATVs, etc) great food, lots of culture, lots of nature, and friendly people. I would love input from anyone who has gone to any of these 3 places. I would especially love input from someone who has gone to MORE than one of these places, and maybe offer an opinion as to which place my buddy and I will like more, given what we are looking for. Thanks!
Recreation or Whitewater? What kayak is best for me.? I am 6' 2" 165, I want a kayak that offers more stability because I am a beginner. Something that i can turn relatively easy. Want either fiberglass or plastic. I will be going down creeks mostly and many flat lakes and rivers. So mostly flat water but would like one that would lean more towards low water and would have the ability to run into a little choppy waters. I would buy either used or new for price range around 300-600. Needs room for some storage for a two day trip.
What is the best whitewater rafting trip near Las Vegas? Im planning on going to LV for my bachelor party next May-June. I was wondering if you locals could recommend an awesome white water rafting company excursion that my buddies and I could take while out there. We'd probably go out there for a long weekend, and stay on the strip. Not looking for an all day trip, hopefully just 4-6 hours of excitement so we can get back to gambling. On an experience level- most of us have kayaks and have been on white waters a handful of times. The more life threatening the better in my opinion. We do want to try out a large raft-type of craft rather than kayaks however. Is the Colorado River an option? website links appreciated- thanks!
Costa Rica Trip?????? So I'm 14, and next summer I will be taking a trip to Costa Rica with my best friend. I live in Wisconsin. Were going to be going to these places and doing these activities: San Jose, Volcanoes, Hot Springs, Arenal Region, Kayaking Trip, Monteverde, Visiting a local school, Horseback Riding, Santa Elena Cloud Forest, Canopy Adventure, Carara, Central Pacific Coast, Carara Biological Reserve, Manuel Antonio National Park, Sarchi, Whitewater Rafting on Sarapiqui River. What is a better place to go camping, Ohiopyle or Kinzua? Me and my buddies are planning a trip next summer to either kinzua or Ohiopyle. we were planning on doing some whitewater kayaking, hiking, mt. biking, and camping. just curious to see if anyone out there has been to either of those places and what your opinions of them are. They are both located in Western Pa. Kinzua is by the pa/new york border in Mt. Jewett, pa Ohiopyle is in south western pa by Uniontown. Kinzua is located in the Allegheny National Forrest

What are some other fun things to do on a road trip? Me and my friend are going on almost a month long road trip this summer. Here's a list of things we've already planned on doing: *parasailing *jet skiing *whale watching *snorkeling *ziplining *horseback riding *ATVing *canoeing *whitewater rafting *kayaking *and possibly bungee jumping We're going to Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, Washington, Utah and Colorado. My question is, can anyone think of any other fun things to do? (apart from shopping and attractions and stuff like that. I'm looking more for activity ideas.) Thanks in advance!
Best Latin American country to visit? Me and my school are planning on organizing a trip to a Latin American country for our Spanish class on February or April. We want to go somewhere cheap, and safe. I'm looking for a country that has great Outdoor Activities like maybe Hiking, Whitewater rafting, kayaking, ziplining, maybe skiing if possible.. ? Besides that, a country with big cities to go to, that has many museums, historic places, things to do during the day, maybe theme parks... maybe enjoy one day at the beach if possible. It is going to be a 10 day trip, and we want to enjoy every single day. It would be around 10+ people.. Which is the cheapest in terms of Food and place to stay and places to visit? Which is the most breathtaking in terms of natural scenery (jungles, mountains, forests) ? Which one would be the best to enjoy a nice day at the beach by February or April? Which would be the safest to walk around in? History-wise, which country would be best to learn the most from? & what's your overall opinion? where would you go? Best country for night activities for teenagers? And Overall, with all those things in mind, in which country or countries would i find at least most of the things that i mentioned above?

Which of these Kayaks should I get? I'm from OKC, so whitewater is nearly non-existent around here. But I still want a good all-around kayak. The only two I have found used around here are a Mainstream Inspiration (12ft) for $200 and a Perception American (13.6ft) for $400. Both of them come with sprayskirts, jackets, and paddles. But I'm wondering if the Perception is really $200 better than the Mainstream. I'll be using the kayak mostly for river trips and choppy lakes. I've read the reviews on both, but I haven't found anything conclusive for either.
Of these foreign destinations (activities listed), which one would you pick and why? Next year I may have the opportunity to go to a foreign destination. I will be going with a specific company that a relative has had great success with on multiple occasions. At the time of the trip I will be 18-years-old, so keep that in mind. I plan on studying archaeology/anthropology in college, which would put me in either central Africa or the Middle East anyway.

Versatile Kayak or Canoe for $300? Looking to buy my first boat...? Well I'm 17 so finance is tight, but I have committed to spending up to $300 for a boat and a little extra for needed accessories. I've been looking all over the place, but my best result right now seems to be the Sea Eagle 330: http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Eagle-Inflatable-Kayak-Package/dp/B000SL0A6A Aside from price, the most important feature I want is versatility. I want to be able to take this boat on different types of water (including lakes, rivers, whitewater) and have it able to perform well in a variety of situations (taking another person, taking a dog, doing a week long camping trip, etc.) So... the Sea Eagle 330 seems perfect, but I am concerned of its durability and performance compared to a hard shell canoe or kayak. Also, the seats are only supported by the sides, not straps attached to the boat. I'm not crazy about having to inflate and deflate it over and over again. It should be noted I do not live on a lake, but I live within a few miles of Lake Erie and many rivers...live in Cleveland and have been checking Craigslist too. Also, please don't suggest I raise my budget more than like $50 if I absolutely need to... What boat should I get? Thanks for your help! -Ariel
