Where is the best place to go whitewater rafting in north carolina? a group of my college friends are looking for somewhere in northcarolinato go whitewater rafting, any one know the best place to do so, or some where in that area we can drive to from north eastsouth carolina????

Outdoor adventures in and around North Carolina? This summer I will be going on another road trip/ backpacking trip. So far I would like to visit Shenandoah National Park, to do some backpacking there and site seeing. Also I heard there are some emerald mines that look like they would be a fun experience. I am wondering what else would be nice to do in the area like any caving, whitewater rafting, climbing, waterfalls or other great sites to see. This can be in other states near North Carolina also.

How much does it cost to go whitewater rafting? Going with some friends in North Carolina. Just wondering what I should expect to pay.

Where to go on vacation? We're looking for a place to go on vacation this October. It needs to be someplace within seven hours of where we live in north western North Carolina. (Please DO NOT suggest we go to the mountains and hike, whitewater raft, ski, etc. because we LIVE in the mountains. We want to get away from where we live and see something NEW!) Where would you recommend we go? Our vacation will be October 15 - 19. Thanks! It need to be within a seven hour drive.
