What are the best canoe routes on the Chattahoochee River Downstream of Bufford dam? I am wanting to do the first canoe trip of 2011 within the next week. I've canoed the bufford dam-settles bridge part of the river numerous times and would like to do something different. Part of the reasoning is that rapid before 20 has tipped me and I have beginers coming along. Is settles-abbots more calm? If not what part of the river has nice rocks and is calm? Can you camp anywhere on the river?

Purchasing Commercial Grade River Rafts? I would like to purchase two rafts to supplement my kayak fleet at the resort I work for. We are often shut-out of the river by the Park Service because they don't allow commercial operators to run kayaks when the river goes above 6.5 feet. They allow liveries to run rafts up to 9.0 feet. We saw a lot of high water the past year and couldn't operate with kayaks, however if we had rafts, we could have run our trips. I used to raft a long time ago but never paid attention to the business end of rafting. I would like some feedback on brands, average costs of a new raft, and things to look for. I am looking for rafts that would hold 5-6 persons and be suitable for Class II to small Class III rapids. Rocks are minimal, so these rafts don't need to be bombproof, but I don't want something that is vinyl. The NRS rafts I saw online are like $3000. I need two of them and that's over my budget. What are some less expensive brands that are good for commercial use? Thanks in advance.

Going to WDW at 13 weeks along, aren't MOST rides OK? I'll be at 13 weeks when I go to Disney World this month. I did research on which rides are absolute no-no's, and I think a couple of them are too precautionary. I've been to Disney several dozen times and know these rides well. I'm definitely going to skip Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Expedition Everest, Primeval Whirl, the Rock n' Roller-Coaster, Test Track and the Tower of Terror. However, I plan on going on Splash Mountain, the non-spinning version of Mission: Space, Dinosaur, The Kilimanjaro Safari, Star Tours, and maybe the Kali-River Rapids. I feel like these pose a minimal threat. Anyone with experience have any opinions on the matter? Oh, and does anyone know if it's safe for a pregnant woman to eat their delicious smoked turkey legs?

how to fish for smallmouth bass in slow deeper parts of a river? I have fished for Smallmouth Bass my whole life. I usually fish rapids shallows and pools. The faster water is where I tend to find them. Behind rocks and in some shallows. Well I have moved and now I live on the river. I have taken my canoe out a few times I have found myself in deeper slower water which I dont now how to fish. I really have never used crank baits much for smallies but would like to start. I know soft plastic worms and jigs are some things I should try but I really wanna land a nice smallie on a crank bait. The type of water I have come across tends to be six to eight feet deep. Very slow moving. Lots of downed trees and large rocks. The clarity tends to be about 3 foot down after that its not very visable. I have beat the banks with a chartuse and black crank bait with no luck. Any tips on what I need to use or what I need to do about this slower deeper water?
Help me Improve this? I have been given a creative writing assessment in my English class where we write a short fantasy story. I would appreciate any tips on how to improve this in terms of showing writing over telling. ____ The group traversed until they reached a rapid-like river. Touchfire stared at the river with determination shaping on his wrinkled-pecked eyes. “This is the river Glin” Touchfire assertively bawled, “I am not going to lie to you, this river isn’t quaint, it has culling currents and rapids that are rough and rugged”. Everyone except Touchfire sat down on the smooth dirt ground. Their eyes sagged with fatigue. Touchfire reached to the bottom of his robe pocket and raised his hand with a glistening powder white as cotton; the fingers released the powder showering over everyone’s head. A pleasant gravity flowed from the top of everyone’s head down to their shoulder while half closing their eyes slowly. Core’s chest curved out as he took an exhilarating breath in, his chest then slowly curved in with a slow eased breath out, he stood up and his ample hand combed over the back of his head as he looked at the sky slowly steering to the river. Those eyes studied the area until they strike a meagre wooden boat. It was an arm’s length wide and it is thin as cardboard. “Ok I found a small boat in the distance but it looks like it can only hold so much at a time, I will row it and Doherty will steer, calypso and Ambrose will cross first while Touchfire protects our chest and food, on the second trip we will take touch fire and a bag of food and the third trip the chest and the other bag of food” said Core. As the group walked onto the small dock they were as calm as the river, the water was suspiciously calm and even with a white reflection of the sun as clear as a polished mirror. The first trip was no endeavour but as Core and Doherty loaded their equipment and helped Touchfire on the river flow accelerated to a concern but with no other choice Core rowed the boat. Every bump sent Shivers up Doherty and Touchfire’s spine. They eventually made it to the other end and back but then the river accelerated more and the rocks were well exposed almost blocking the way to the other side. The water was spraying everywhere around the rocks. Core packed the boat quickly and jumped on it, swaying it slightly. When Core paddled the boat was the rivers chew toy. It turned and smashed against every rock in sight and the water was spraying in the air like a thick fog. Then the worst happened, a high pitch screech broke an opening in the bottom of the boat, it broke apart quickly like a twig and soon core Doherty were clinging on to the chest for dear life. The food flowed too far away to reach and the chest seemed to be flowing down stream, Ambrose started to swing his rope and with a quick whip it hit the chest. Core without warning gripped on to it fixed solid like his hand melted around the rope. The river was pulling the chest away from Ambrose but calypso and Touchfire pulled the rope. They were having a tug of war against the river. The rope stretched their arms the limits until it seemed as some freak accident the river current flowed the other way round pulling Core and Doherty towards them. They reached the other side and climbed on to the ground. _____
I can't move my big toe, and my WHOLE foot is tingly.? So I decided it was a good idea to go body surfing down rapids in the river, I hit a rock with my foot... There is a huge gash on my big toe, and instantly my foot bruised... I went to the ER, and they said there was no broken bones... Well FMH is the worst hospital ever... They just sent me home. I still can't move my big toe AT ALL... my other toes move... and my toes have the feeling of your foot sleeping, and it wont go away... There is no inflamation in my foot, so that isnt causing it not being able to move... Idk what to do. I cant go to the doctors until monday. its only saturday. I'm so sore, and i just want to know what to do. Any ideas on what to do?
can you be a critic to my poem? I am dancing here in this room, not alone I can see you. Like the river rapids, we realize how fast it has become Like a waving feather Like a quick drop of anguish that suddenly rocks your soul Don’t be afraid, look at me, My body and my soul, they are still here You are giving my lungs air to breathe Removing old and cold draught, like fog You know you are stronger than me, You are much wiser, older. But now, I can hear your long wailing sounds of your uncertainty You know that we are not allowed to fall like rivers on mountains Or collapse like a branch unnoticed We can only cry our sweet, similar tears in the rain Together. Because we don’t want anybody to see, or know But don’t worry; the smoke hasn’t roamed in this room yet I’ve checked. And if I could only lock the doors to stop it from coming, Using the keys of our joined hearts you know I would. So let’s keep on dancing in this room Without stopping until the music itself stops. until the music itself stops. Let's keep our own time, without trembling, Without worrying for what is to come A darkening sky, wings that will loosen our grasp Taking away the questions and mysteriousness, Answering all questions, Giving a finality. When the wings come, I will sing to you, and you will sing with me We will keep on droning on and on and on and on Until the music warns us that the track is coming to an end And the sky above us decides it's time the dance finally stops.

My dog almost drown today, and we think my nephew threw her in..? I dont know what to do. We were hiking with our two dogs, my fiance and my 11 year old half brother. Who has had "issues" with in animals in the past. We were right beside a river that you could have gone white water rafting on. And we found a calm section of the river, and were waiting for some people to leave so we could take over their spot. I had my back turned for a second, and when I turned around my dog was being sucked down into the rapids towards rocks, and even worse rapids. I thought my nephew had thrown a rock or stick into the water and she went after it. But my fiance thinks he threw her in. (thankfully she is a strong swimmer and made it to shore safely btw). And to top it off my brother took off and called my mom and after a long pause said he had thrown her in. Once she was ok, I went after him. And found him crying and hugging me. Saying he was sorry. I snapped at him when it happened, saying why would you throw anything in there. Assuming that is what he did. He said he didnt think she would go after it. Which she never has before (gone for rocks at least) and she also is smart enough to know what type of water is safe and what isn't. We hiked for an hour and though she loves the water, she knew that water was too rough for even her. I dont know what to do now. Because he is saying to everyone he threw a rock, but I think he did throw her in and is knows it was wrong. And doesnt want to get in trouble. Is there any way to get the truth out of him at this point? I cant just let this go, this is not the first time he has hurt an animal. And she could have been killed, and so could have my fiance who was going in after her before she swam ashore. Help. I should mention he never mentioned throwing a rock until AFTER I assumed he had done that. I said I was sorry to him, because he was crying. And to never throw rocks in the water again. Again my dog has NEVER gone in the water after rocks before. EVER. I should mention..My brother is 11 yes. But my dog is only 43lbs and easy to pick up. My brother is my height 5'9 and the same weight as me..130lbs. And the water was deep enough that he would have only had to of placed her in the water before she was sucked down river...quickly. Is there any way to get the truth out of him at this point? And trust me I am fully aware of what this could mean. I am scared. He threw his cat off a patio once. And kicked our old three legged Rottie to the point she fell and was bleeding. He does have issues outside of this. His mom is an addict and tried to kill herself a month ago. And has been one since before he was born. I also wanted to add that I have spoken to him in the past about the way he treats animals. He is very indifferent with them, even his cat that he begged his mom to get. Who later dumped on to his grandma. I have tried to explain that animals feel hurt, they feel loss, suffering, love and pretty much all the emotions we feel. But he really didnt get it. He was almost shocked that they do feel like we do. Im just at a loss. I know one thing for sure, he will be monitored very closely when around our dogs. Which he anyways, we never leave him alone with them. But after this...the leash so to speak will be even tighter!
What breed of dog would you choose to have in the of the following situations? 1. Your cruise ship hit a jagged rock and sunk. The life raft got you to what seemed like a deserted island. Theres plenty of fish and coconuts for you and your dog. Hakuna matata 2. R.I.P. Joshua Barnaby- Merrimack, NH? MERRIMACK - A moment of youthful summer fun resulted in tragedy yesterday afternoon, when a Merrimack High School student died in a swimming accident while playing with friends. Merrimack Police said the 16-year-old boy, confirmed as Joshua Barnaby by two Merrimack High officials, was swimming with a group of seven or eight other friends, all teenagers, at a popular swimming area along the Souhegan River known as Wildcat Falls. The teens were swimming in a relatively calm pool area that is surrounded by rapids and large rocks. Merrimack Police Lt. Brian Boulay said Barnaby jumped off a rock, 15 to 20 feet high and did a backflip in mid-air, and landed in the water, on top of a friend, another teenaged boy. Barnaby did not return to the surface. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, and within an hour, search and rescue crews located Barnaby's body. This fall he would have been a junior at MHS. http://unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=Merrimack+teen+dies+in+swimming+accident&articleId=5dc84b6b-911c-467e-a550-e46a6084f2ed
What does it mean if you have a dream of yourself being disemboweled...? I had a dream I was rafting with my friends and two others. We were going down some rapids when I was thrown overboard and I got caught in the current and pulled into and across a large, jagged rock which (as the titled suggests) cut me open. I was pulled from the water where I lay on the bottom of the raft looking at the sky and the faces of my friends whom were standing over me. I was really calm and assured them it was trivial to be concerned of my passing. Also, I could see my intestines starting to, or trying to pour out of me. It was fairly vivid. I could feel (even after I awoke) the river, the wind, smell the river, feel the rocks on my feet and a loss of breath (or rather harder breathing). Can anyone shed some light on what this may mean if anything? Or is it merely an assimilation of past experiences and thoughts jumbled into one peculiar and macabre dream?
I need some writing advice. Does anyone have poetry experience? I love writing and Im taking my chance with poetry. I already have a few short stories published, but want to take it a step further. I want an honest opinion. Its under my pen name M.M. Grant. Last time I saw you By M.M. Grant Last time I saw you, You told me you loved me from the top of the Farris wheel. I laughed because I knew it wasn’t true. I was never good at goodbye. I didn’t have the heart to break yours. Last time I saw you, We took my brother to the carnival. We ate funnel cakes and nachos, and you gave me a bracelet. This now lays collecting dust in a blue box filled with the other rejected jewelry. We looked like we were in love, And I laughed because I knew it wasn’t true. I was leaving for the summer, I was leaving you forever. We dropped my brother off at home, And you took me down to the waters edge, Just like a thousand times before, where we had tried To skip rocks over rapids and kill hours in afternoons. And I laughed because I knew we couldn’t. The air was cold that evening. We sat in your van by the river watching as The sun dipped below the scenic skyline. I knew it was wrong, but that moment I could close my eyes and be with Someone other than you And it was perfect. The moment was lost when the silence was broken You followed your gut and the next thing I knew Pants down, shirt up, combating tears, Screaming on the inside, unable to make a sound, to move, to fight back. And as you said , “baby I love you.” I laughed because I know you were lying. And all time I’m trying to forget I’m in your van by the river And all the while I am trying to deny what you are doing to me I’m trying to erase the feeling of bare skin. Last time I saw you, you were at my door. You said, “Ill come see you as soon as you get home.” And I laugh because I know it’s a lie. And the tears I was crying were not because I would spend the whole summer without you They were for what I had lost at the river. And I knew there on my porch would be The last time I saw you.
Does anyone have any ideas on the meaning of my dream? Last night I dreamed that my boyfriend & I were living in a castle built into the side of a cliff overlooking a river. The castle was empty, no furniture, decorations or stairs to reach the different rooms which were at varied elevations. I had the urge to look out the front window to see the river had become rapids & there were now two cars rocking violently in the water, side by side(one was an old beetle). The doors of both cars were open with noone inside, I assumed the were swept out further upstream. When I began scanning the water for the bodies, I saw some type of walker & a cane in the current. At that point I realized it was raining pretty heavily, suddenly bodily organs(lungs, hearts, livers etc.)were being pulled through the current. Then a torso, a mans decapitated head & then massive amounts of limbs & body parts in general, overwhelming the river. I went to one of the rooms to check on my two dogs & my boyfriend scrambled into one of the higher elevation bedrooms to see how bad the flooding was. At that point every room had a small amount of water & the rain was not letting up. We realized we were going to die & it became too much for me to think of my dogs not surving, so I was able to wake myself up. I was probably only asleep for 45 min. & woke up drenched in sweat.
Im going to write a vampire book...? and no, I am not doing this because of twilight. of course I love twilight - no rude comments on that please - but I have had this idea for years now. and finally I feel I have learned the styles and etc of writing a book. I wish for it to be based on vampires and the human vampire. but first I need a storyline, some names from the 1900's and some snowy states and villages that aren't as cold or snowy as etc. antartica... here is my idea of the vampire character so far. she will be a vampire form 1908, she will have long dark brown hair and red eyes, she will be petite and small about 5 foot 4. her basic story of her excistence shall be: INSERT NAME HERE was alone and lsot in the woods of INSERT SUNNY PLACE HERE when she stumbled across a rock. she was going to fall into the rapids of a fast flowing river but found herself leaning over the edge. she was not holding herself up and was pulled backwards by someone she could not see ashe was behind her pulling her backwards. she heard a faint "sorry" from a shy yet muscular sounding man's voice before feeling a slight pain in her neck and dropping to the floor. fo days she lay there as if unconcious but really she felt a raging pain. and ever since that day in INSERT SUNNY PLACE FROM ABOVE HERE she has been the human vampire. and still - for hundreds of year she searches for her creater, yet still she has not foiund him - and probably never will. what do you think? that isn't the exact wording I will use in the book because I did it quickly but I thought t it seemed OK. so names from the 1900's, sunny / warm countries and villages / towns with forests in them, cold snowy places and villages, perhaps a good story line or place to continue from the paragraph above or anything that might help. ps. I only want comments about the book, ideas, facts or suggestions. no comments about my stupid lame idea or things like that please. you shouldn't have clicked on here if you ddin't like A. books or B. vampires and if you did you should only comment your review and ideas please. thankyou everyone.
Problem is, If I practice every day and I have gotten better and better at it, and my partner seems to be...? ...getting better and better at it at the same time, our opponent pool keeps shrinking and shrinking to the point where we have very little competition left in our small town of 622 people. We were thinking of taking a road trip down to San Diego until woke up on the road one day, ready for an easy three-hour drive home. But we wouldn't make it home for another 24 hours. At milepost 65 my sister said what's that smell. And I noticed the temperature gauge hit H and the hood was steaming. We waited at the side of the road in the rain for a tow. The mechanic at the shop in Grants Pass fixed an air pocket in the coolant and sent us on our way. Ten minutes later we were stuck on the side of the road waiting for another tow in the rain. Soon, we bagan missing playing every afternooon, rain or shine. We waited for five hours in the shop's lobby hoping that any minute we would be on the road home. My sister was down to her last pair of underwear and my son was out of diapers. Instead we had to spend the night in the pepto pink hotel behind the shop and wait for a new radiator and hoses to the tune of $500. But the next day we hit the road and made it home in about 3 hours with nothing more exciting than a few slow spots. I did some backcountry hiking at Grand Canyon National Park. We spent 4 days and 3 nights hiking through a small part of one of the largest canyon systems on this planet. We estimate that we hiked about 30 miles with a roughly 6,000 foot elevation loss and then gain. We hiked down the Bright Angel trail, and took a left at Indian Gardens for a little hike out to Plateau Point, and then to the Horn Creek campground for our first night. The next day we hiked along the Tonto Platform to the Monument Creek campground. The third day saw four of us take a day hike down to the Granite Rapids on the Colorado River and back, and then all of us hiked around to the Hermit Creek campground. The last day saw us hiking from the Hermit Creek campground up and out to Hermit's Rest on the rim. Day three was supposed to be an easy day. We were going to leave our gear up in the Monument Creek campsite, hike down to the Colorado river with daypacks in the morning, and then leisurely hike over to the Hermit's Creek campground in the afternoon. Rachel decided that she wanted a break, so she stayed at camp while the four of us hiked down. The first pictures are near the campground, and you can see the monument for which it is named. Once we descended the switchbacks just past the monument, we got into the Vishnu Schist, a very different kind of rock than we had hiked through up to that point. The weather had been spectacular up to that point, but the clouds started to come in that morning. On our hike down, it really started to pour, and we took shelter under various rocks. Jason wasn't happy with the location he had initially chosen and se decided to climb up into a little overhang where I took his blurry picture. I didn't get any pictures of the Cathedral Stairs because I was too busy hiking up them. However, we took another leisurely break, and then ran into Dave who had hiked back to tell us that it was getting late, and asked if we wanted him to take some of our gear for us. He and Jason had worked out an elaborate (and switchback intensive) system for this luggage transfer scheme. However, none of us were willing to give Dave a whole pack, so Rachel and Jani gave Dave some small heavy things and he sped off along the trail. We spent ten or fifteen minutes waiting around at the very dark and empty Hermit's Rest thinking happy thoughts, until Jason and Dave pulled up with a hot pizza for us to eat. We threw our gear into the trunk and headed back to the lodges. We had a celebratory dinner at the Bright Angel lodge restaurant. It was really cold up on the rim, and my poor camera was having problems, so I only got this one picture. It's goofy because it caught part of a cushion in the foreground with its flash, which again screwed with the brightness and tonal ranges of the photograph. That's okay, we were all pretty ragged after four days hiking in the canyon, and the character of this photograph probably matches our state. Then I argued that there were there are a few different ways that a road trip can be pulled off. The first way a road trip can happen is just to let it happen. Some of the best trips I’ve been on have been totally impromptu trips. This includes just starting off in a random direction and taking turns here and there as you see interesting things along the way. Helpful things in this type of road trip are using historical marker signs, signs pointing to cities you have not seen, and signs leading to different attractions. Another way you can handle traveling is to plan every single stop and not deviate from the plan. This can be a very cool way to travel in that you can plan a theme for your trip. For example, you can set out on a planned road trip to see all the national parks or state parks in your state. By planning what you want to see, you can plan the places you want to stay and even the places you would like to eat. One advantage to this type of planned traveling is that if the traveler only has a limited time off work or for vacation, he/she knows exactly where they are headed, and what they plan to do when they get there. It also gives them a chance to know the amount of time it will take to get back home, in order to be back in time to resume work or whatever other plans there may be. It also helps to determine how much a trip will cost. This can be an advantage for people of limited financial resources wishing to go on a drive. One last way is to do a combination of both and plan some parts of your road trip, but also be flexible with the deviations from your path. If the traveler has an extended amount of time for which to explore on a road trip, constructing a basic plan and then allowing flexibility to change or add to that plan is the best way to take a road trip America. This method of traveling, in my opinion, is the best because it gives you a guide of your plans, but it also allows you the opportunity to change in case something looks interesting that wasn’t planned. In the same way as a planned trip, you can plan a theme for your trip; the great thing is you are not restricted to only see things you planned to see. And even then, you might not find anyone to play against.

What would you add to this? The topic is 'How does damming the Colorado River affect the Grand Canyon?'; The multiple dams surrounding the Grand Canyon have held the Colorado River like a closely monitored aquarium. The canyon has had to adjust to these obstructions for many years. For example, there has been increased algae growth, a change in fish population, and all the vegetation has caused the return of beavers. Insects, birds, and reptiles have all been affected due to the changes in the river’s content, temperature, and flow. Leisure or recreational use of the Canyon is different as well. Thousands of people who raft down the river each year now have difficulty making it through the rapids because of debris floating in the water. River beaches wash away due to the trapping of soil and rock behind the dam. The Colorado River has been transformed into some sort of plumbing system and scientists are hard at work trying to do something about this catastrophe. Help?!
Will you please grade my college app essay and any tips? This was an open topic, write about whatever you want Determination, according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary it means a firm or fixed intention to achieve a desired end. To me, determination means never giving up or giving in. During the summer of 2010, I attended Outdoor Odyssey Leadership Academy. This was a week filled with extreme activities dealing with fear. There were activities dealing with larger fears such as heights, caving, white water rafting, high rope courses, and rock climbing. There were also activities dealing tinier fears such as sleeping outside, living with new people or even being homesick. My fear was white water rafting. After a long ride with the girls from my cabin, I stepped out of the van and stepped into a huge yellow raft with three other people. Everyone from camp was there, making a total of about forty rafts full of people. Since I was one of the shorter girls I sat in the front of the raft. My nerves started to become distinct, and I ensured that I payed attention to every word the instructor was conveying. He was telling us how to make a sharp right or left, how to stop, how to move the raft forwards and backwards, and how to work as a team with the members in your raft. We picked up our raft and got it into the water, jumped in, and started heading down the river. We went through many sections of water and stopped to wait for all of the other rafts of people after each section. Every section got harder and harder. I saw people falling into the water after hitting a rock, and hurrying back into their raft. I hoped that wouldn't happen to me. We were all stopped at the end of a section, I was nervous, the last one was so formidable and it was only about to get harder. The instructor explained that there was a “death hole” ahead, an underground cave in the water in which a few people had already lost their lives in. The cave was constantly filled with water moving in and out of the cave at a fast pace, once a person went in the water would push them to the bottom and the force of water was too powerful to get them out. This made me very alert, I was determined to overcome my fear and get myself, and my other raft members, away from this death hole safe and alive. It was our turn and the rapids pushed us into one rock after another, we dove to the other side of the raft, dodging the rocks. Finally, we reached the death hole, the instructor was screaming directions but the rapids were to powerful, we hit the rock beside the hole and our raft flipped, propelling us into the water. I used all of the strength in my body to push the raft off of one of the girls in my cabin and we all grabbed a safety rope and swam to shore. We did it, as a team we made it past the hole. The fact that our raft flipped didn't even matter, our determination helped us through the incident and we made it out safely. A little determination can go a long way, and putting your mind to something and overcoming any obstacles or fear will get you to your goal. You can do anything you set your mind to as long as you don't give up or give in.
Is my first chapter of my young-adult fantasy book good? Chapter 1- Doomed? A bolt of lightning struck against the trunk of a tree as Maxius was running for his life. Maxius continued to run at a great pace, occasionally looking behind to see the Khas still chasing him at a tremendous rate. He continued dodging every obstacle that appeared in his way. Maxius nearly running out of energy began to think about where he was located within the forest. With no idea of where he was going, Maxius began to realize that he needed to find any means to escape the Khas behind. Would this be the end of him? Could this be his ultimate doom? An axe struck the tree to the left of Maxius, who became startled for a moment, but continued to scamper through the forest. As he approached an arched he tree, Maxius realized where he was and now had a plan of escape. Maxius became conscious of where he was and now had the only possible way of avoiding his death. All the memories and thoughts began to empty into Maxius’ mind. All his people would be in utter danger if something were to happen to him. Being the leader of the insurrection, he knew that his people would not know how to continue if their leader was made into a Khas. He began to recall how loyal his people were to him and how much they relied on him, even though he was so young, they needed him. Maxius also pondered that harsh fact. Was he too young to lead these people against the Khas? They could have chosen a wiser and more skilled, but instead they chose him, although doubt had entered his mind on numerous occasions. The people believed in him to the fullest extent, but he had questioned himself on several occurrences. He was unworthy and unprepared for this duty and he knew it. A voice had erupted from behind Maxius, “He’s there-hurry-move it!” As the lightning grew stronger and fiercer, rain began to pour throughout the forest. The night grew as the storm began to move throughout the valley. The wind was blowing at a very rapid velocity. The trees began to rock back and forth as branches began to plummet to the ground below. All the nearby squirrels had begun to disperse into the trunks of the tree, trying to avoid the fury of the storm arising in strength. Lightning had hit a tree, which sparked a fire that began to enlarge in size. The rain ultimately caused the fire to burn out, leaving the trees in black ashes. The rain began to form small swamps throughout the entire area, which erupted into another treacherous obstacle for the Khas and Maxius. Maxius took another glimpse behind, as he was approaching the tree line of the forest. He ran forward towards the cliff, with the Khas not too far behind and gaining ground quickly. He sprinted to the edge of the cliff and looked down below to see the river about 100 feet below. The river had grown in size due to the nature of the storm. Maxius saw the rapids that began to form over the course of the entire river, thinking to himself, that he would not be able to survive the fall, nevertheless, the rapids. He heard the roars of the Khas approaching as they began to appear out of forest. Maxius thought to jump at that moment, but continued to hesitate because he had strong doubts that he would be able to endure the wrath of the river below. The Khas began to run over the cliff as Maxius stood motionlessly on the border. The Khas began to roar as they approached him. Maxius stood there stiffly and had now conjured up a paralysis characteristic. The Khas stopped about 20 feet from Maxius and looked at him with the strongest desire to annihilate him. The Khas were large black creatures, with armor on their arms, head, and legs. The Khas also has a K-shaped symbol embedded on their chest. The mark appeared to be a K, but had curves flowing throughout the letter. The Khas had razor sharp claws and teeth that could chew through a steel pipe, if provoked. They all held long black swords and axes that were a dark blue, which had a sharp blade at the end in the shape of a long C. Maxius stared into the dark yellow eyes of the Khas who were now ten feet away from him. He began to inch back towards the highest point of the cliff. Without another moment of hesitation, Maxius turned around and jumped out as far as he could, off the cliff-side. As he was falling down the side of the cliff, the Khas began to rush to the edge, roaring with a regretful characteristic. Maxius managed to get halfway down, until something grabbed him by the shoulders. The Khas had giant wings that sent a blast of air when they flapped. The Khas carried Maxius high back up to the cliff. They flew over the rest of the Khas, as they looked towards Maxius with much assuage. The Khas flew behind the rest of the Khas and dropped Maxius about 20 feet into the ground. He hit the ground with a small moan and then proceeded to stand to his feet. Maxius looked again to the rest of the Khas as the he tried to regain the strength. His attempt to escape had failed and he had to now fight for his

please help english homework and i don't understand it? What is type the topic sentence and the concrete details supporting the paragraph? After dinner we pass through a region of the wildest desolation. The canyon is very tortuous. The river was very rapid, and many lateral canyons enter on either side. These usually have their branches, so that the region is cut into a wilderness of gray and brown cliffs. In several places these lateral canyons are separated from one another only by narrow walls, often hundreds of feet high. Piles of broken rock lie against these walls. Crags and tower-shaped peaks are seen everywhere, and away above them long lines of broken cliffs. The walls are almost without vegetation. A few dwarf bushes are seen here and there clinging to the rocks, and cedars grow from the crevices--ugly clumps, like war clubs beset with spines.

I really need help on my English. I need to find the topic sentences in these paragraphs? Nearly everyone is familiar with the dark silhouette of the giant saguaro, its arms thrust stiffly out. However, few people have actually seen this awe-inspiring plant in its natural habitat, since it is found only in the desert in the southwest part of the United States. There a visitor may see saguaros as tall as fifty feet. Such a saguaro is probably several centuries old. Saguaros grow very slowly; after ten years a seedling is less than an inch high. Like other cacti, a saguaro is mostly water. A large saguaro may weigh as much as six tons, and as much as 95 percent of that may be water. Only the thin woody ribs inside the saguaro are not filled with moisture. It is this cactus that represents the desert to most people. Many people today claim not to believe in superstitions. Yet these same people worry when they break a mirror or spill salt. Superstitions are nothing more than leftover customs from other, faraway times. People once found it difficult to understand the powerful forces of nature such as storms, changes in the moon, and sickness and death. They feared what they could not understand. I need supporting detail to the topic sentence in this one: After dinner we pass through a region of the wildest desolation. The canyon is very tortuous. What do you think of this? what do you think of chapter 1 in my book? It is a fantasy, kinda sci fi. And what do you think chapter 2 should be about? A different storyline or the main character in captivity? A man in a tattered white jumpsuit staggered this way and that, weaving through pine trees which oddly enough, had no pine needles on them. All the trees’ needles were littered on the snowy ground below them. The man looked quickly behind him… this was a mistake. He tripped and fell on a gnarled tree root just as a small object whistled as it flew right by his head and buried itself half an inch into a tree trunk. Theman looked up and saw that the area around the dart had turned blood red. The red stain spread out until it was about the size of an apple. The man starred at the dart curiously, his mouth open slightly as he breathed out a puff of air which was visible because of the cold atmosphere. He snapped back into his senses as another dart was buried in the snow right next to his leg. He got up and looked behind him. He could see them now! They were close enough for him to see them barring their fangs at him; hebanked left and sprinted away, sending snow and dead pine needles flying behind him. He continued running, the forest was getting thinner now which was both good and bad for him. Good, because that meant he was getting farther out of their territory, but it was mostly bad because now there was a lack of concealment and cover, (which were the two things that were now essential to his survival) it also meant that soon he’d reach… He had to literally skid to a stop to prevent himself from falling off a ninety degree cliff face which went down twenty feet and met with an icy, raging river full of sharp rocks jutting out of the water and rapids, some of which were more like small waterfalls. He felt a stinging pain throb through his hand; he dove into a small leafy bush for cover as he inspected his pinky. There was a small cut above the fingernail where the dart had He dove down to the ground and looked at his pinky. There was a small cut just above its fingernail where the dart had grazed it. He cursed under his breath as his arm began to get numb. He attempted to stand up but fell back down, rolling out of the bush and into the open. His vision became blurry and the last thing he saw were two strange looking men, walking up to him. It was then that Christopher Harris fell into a deep sleep.
what is this answers in genesis thing? I decided to take a look at answersingenesis.org and I found out most of the stuff on there is bullcrap! Most of it's not even true, and the ones that are true are actually just deciving. Let's look at the "Worldwide Flood Evidence" 1. Fossils of sea creatures high above sea level due to the ocean waters having flooded over the continents Not true. The land was not the same shape it was millions of years ago. Millions of years ago, the Himalayas were probably not even formed, and definitely not the Grand Canyon. And the Grand Canyon was a river? It would kind make sense to have marine fossils, you know? The section where the Himalayas are now was the BEACH 50 million years ago. Once again, it would only make sense to have marine fossils there, duh. 2. Rapid burial of plants and animals You know, there's a volcano right next to the Grand Canyon. I think an eruption counts as rapid burial and also catastrophic as the article says. 3. Rapid or no erosion between strata Rapid deposition does not create flat, smooth rock layers. I actually did an experiment, and with sand, clay , soil, and mud in there. The materials do separate, but not like the "knife-edge" that is stated in the article. 3. Many strata laid down in rapid succession Wet rock doesn't make it soft. I'm not ever sure how they came up with this bull. 4. Rapidly deposited sediment layers spread across vast areas So we should find a huge CHUNK of mixed animals and stuff right? But we don't. The rock layers are seperated by time frame where only certain species existed. If this were true, why don't we find dinosaur fossils with human fossils in the same layer? Because this is not true. These few stick out to me the most. I trust that the 4th one on the list is true. But if you think about it, the world was not created yesterday. This site tries to confuse you by mixing time frames together, and to get you thinking that it all happened recently. The rock had a long time to travel, so it's not like it's big that the same type of rock is somewhere else. @L.C.: Tell me your logic then. @JohnFromNC: You know, there's a lot of water on the Earth. It would kinda make sense that there would be a lot of marine fossils. And please present your source of information. I will believe what you said is true once you list a credible source. answersingenesis.org is NOT credible.
For those of you who have been pampering my ego demanding more, what do you think of this? Ache The sorrow in my heart is a heavy weight that holds me down, like a rock that keeps me pinned to the river bed of lost dreams. There beneath a swift following river that carries away all hopes, I am left to drown under loves murky waters. I have abandoned myself to you, offering my heart as sacrifice. I look into your eyes for some distant sign of hope, but you toss my sorrow aside like a small pebble. Ahh the ache that is my heart cannot be described. Soon my eyes will fade to an opaque window on a cold void. I am desolate, to be denied even the memory of your warmth. Unnoticed by the casual observer intent upon the rapids, left helpless to spin in eddies as the current of joy flows past. The last bubble of knowledge escapes from my lips, desperate to inspire desire it reaches the surface. And pops unseen into the atmosphere, at last the ache that is my heart subsides. For those of you who studied English. Should it be eddies or eddy's or eddies' sorry never made it beyond Janet and John. Roxy that's good lol ManekiNi no doubt it has been in many songs etc because many people have done it. So I don't see why a 'cliche' has no value if it reflects a true action. Of course the result is not always the same, some times it sparks love. Its a risk you take. Maybe I could say I scan your face for some distant sign of hope.
Please analyse this poem? I don't understand this poem.If you could find out definitions of the older words, find literary devices and metaphors that would be great, Thank you! 1 West wind, blow from your prairie nest, 2 Blow from the mountains, blow from the west 3 The sail is idle, the sailor too ; 4 O! wind of the west, we wait for you. 5 Blow, blow! 6 I have wooed you so, 7 But never a favour you bestow. 8 You rock your cradle the hills between, 9 But scorn to notice my white lateen. 10 I stow the sail, unship the mast : 11 I wooed you long but my wooing's past ; 12 My paddle will lull you into rest. 13 O! drowsy wind of the drowsy west, 14 Sleep, sleep, 15 By your mountain steep, 16 Or down where the prairie grasses sweep! 17 Now fold in slumber your laggard wings, 18 For soft is the song my paddle sings. 19 August is laughing across the sky, 20 Laughing while paddle, canoe and I, 21 Drift, drift, 22 Where the hills uplift 23 On either side of the current swift. 24 The river rolls in its rocky bed ; 25 My paddle is plying its way ahead ; 26 Dip, dip, 27 While the water flip 28 In foam as over their breast we slip. 29 And oh, the river runs swifter now ; 30 The eddies circle about my bow. 31 Swirl, swirl! 32 How the ripples curl 33 In many a dangerous pool awhirl! 34 And forward far the rapids roar, 35 Fretting their margin for evermore. 36 Dash, dash, 37 With a mighty crash, 38 They seethe, and boil, and bound, and splash. 39 Be strong, O paddle! be brave, canoe! 40 The reckless waves you must plunge into. 41 Reel, reel. 42 On your trembling keel, 43 But never a fear my craft will feel. 44 We've raced the rapid, we're far ahead! 45 The river slips through its silent bed. 46 Sway, sway, 47 As the bubbles spray 48 And fall in tinkling tunes away. 49 And up on the hills against the sky, 50 A fir tree rocking its lullaby, 51 Swings, swings, 52 Its emerald wings, 53 Swelling the song that my paddle sings. This is not my poem it is by E. Pauline Johnson I have to do analyse it for school. Just making sure i didnt skip something.
I want to be picked to go on a once and a lifetime experience!? My teacher has a trip where you kayak/canoe down the Current river into Ozarks Missouri. You camp along the river for a week while also jumping off cliffs and exploring caves and butt-bumping in rapid water (called this b/c you might hit ur butt on the rocks!) I really want to get picked by my teacher, WHAT CAN I DO?!?!?!?!?!?
Have The Niagra falls only ever stopped once and are they ever likely to do so again.? A STOPPAGE OF THE FALLS OF NIAGARA. The following remarkable account of the stoppage of Niagara Falls, appeared in the _Niagara Mail_ at the time of the occurrence: "That mysterious personage, the oldest inhabitant, has no recollection of so singular an occurrence as took place at the Falls on the 30th of March, 1847. The 'six hundred and twenty thousand tons of water each minute' nearly ceased to flow, and dwindled away into the appearance of a mere milldam. The rapids above the falls disappeared, leaving scarcely enough on the American side to turn a grindstone. Ladies and gentlemen rode in carriages one-third of the way across the river towards the Canada shore, over solid rock as smooth as a kitchen floor. The _Iris_ says: 'Table Rock, with some two hundred yards more, was left dry; islands and places where the foot of man never dared to tread have been visited, flags placed upon come, and mementoes brought away. This unexpected event is attempted to be accounted for by an accumulation of ice at the lower extremity of Fort Erie, which formed a sort of dam between Fort Erie and Buffalo.'"
I asked this in another section, no response (it is in regard to me and my gf) canoeing ? My fun summer with my mate is in jeopardy. Help with float trips!? Went on a float trip with my partner this weekend. It was ucomfortable to say the least. I need help! Last year, she took me on my first canoe trip. She sat in the back, I in the front and she did all the work, no problems. Fast forward to now. We took a trip on a river that was running pretty quickly (lots of rain). We were with many other boats. We were the only ones who tipped (twice). Note, my mate is an extremely experienced canoeist, I don't think it was her fault at all. So, I did notice that our canoe was extremely tippy most of the time. No other boat seemed that way. It was a constant slight rocking back and forth. This was even without any rapids or anything. She said I needed to relax, that I seemed stiff. Honestly, I felt totally relaxed and I didn't feel off balance or stiff. Any suggestions? I hate to waste my summer and not go floating with my partner again. I think it will drive such a wedge between us. She lives for the river. I'm not sure what the problem is? Maybe I'm just not meant to canoe. I feel like a failure and that I ruined her day. What would cause our boat to slightly rock back and forth like that?
Hooked up with a guy? Okay so here it is, I hooked up with this guy and we were casually dating though all his friends kept asking if I was his gf but, we both decided not to make it serious and should we want to date other people we let the other person know and that is that. Well, I spent the weekend at his place and we hung out with his friends who I also know and we had an amazing time until the last day. He and I decided to go back to this river and we were realy stupid and decided to swim to the middle where no people were out to some rocks. The current ended up taking us and he made it to a rock to safety but, I got pulled in the under current and damn near drowned I was finally able to get close enough to the shore where I could be thrown a tube because I did nto have a life vest on which was stupid. It freaked him out really bad, He said it was all his fault because it was his idea and that he drags people into his craziness. I tried to tell him I am my own person but, he said watching me out there and not being able to get to me was the worst feeling in the world. Don't ask how I iddn't die because well, everyone was watching waiting to see what would happen I even got pulled under in the rapids and couldn't get to the top YUCKY water. He took it really hard and we barely spoke on the way home from the River. I asked him if he was okay and he was still really scared he barely made it to the rocks himself. I asked him if we were okay and he said he didn't know so I dropped it. I gave him a hug when he dropped me off home and told him to call me whenever or to text me because I don't want to be pushy or clingy. I was friends with this guy before anything happened but, with the sexual chemisty it was bound to happen and now I feel like an idiot because I will see him again and well, I miss him as a friend. How do I go about this. Part of me wants to avoid him at all costs because its on him but, the other part of me wants to be around him and still be good friends like we were. I knew he would end it because he was getting a little too close for his comfort and thats okay but, how do I approach him. He hasn't called or texted me but, it hasn't been that long and i don't want to be the first to do it because ovbiously I scared the hell out of him and everyone else with the almost dying thing and he needs time to chill out. I won't be doing the swimming across the patomic river again. I was asked over and over why don't you have a life vest I didn't know how strong the under current was LOL I had never swam in a river much less one that people actually do things in. Any advice on how to get my friend back and truth be told I kind of want to hook up with him again. I don't want him as a Boyfriend but, i like havign a friend I can hook up with. Its a nice change since I had never done it before. Im keeping my distance but, i need to know how to tread this. I treaded water and I was tired I don't want to see him at our Nope I waited three days and on my Birthday I sent him a "fake" text like it was going to my gf when he answered I asked ho whe was he said he didn't know then appologized for being a ghost and said being around isnt good right now. I told him it was fine and that I knew the score and not to sweat it and that I wouldnt avoid him and he said K. It sucks I really liked him and enjoyed being his friend so I delted all his texts and will do his number tomorrow. I am so bummed but, I guess thats what I get. :( Oh well, maybe I will talk to a couple of his guy friends lol they are hott but, I won't hook with them then again maybe I should stay away and he will miss hanging out with me a bit
this dream confuses me? what does it mean? I was standing by a river with a camp counselor waiting for my friend to get there. She had been tubing with the other campers. She came around a rock from upstream and I said, "Come on Jessica! Go on the rapids! Not the calm stuff!" She said no and then I asked her if she would if i go with her. She agreed. So I got into an empty tube ring that was on the shore and I jumped into the rapids. Another camper was behind me. I was facing backwards so I couldnt see infront of me. Then my tube spun around and i was headed for a waterfall. I wasnt really scared i just observed the fact that i was going to go over. As i was falling down i grabbed hold of a slim branch hanging from the side of the waterfall off. (i was still sitting in my tube. idk how.) I looked over and the camper that was behind me was perched on the edge of the waterfall. She told me to let go. I did and I was falling right next to her. My tube was under me so it was going to break my fall in the water below. When i landed I fell in sideways. I went under really REALLY deep and the other girl who fell with me was underwater talking normally to me. (dont ask me where that came from) She was talking about the mist of the waterfall rising and she told me to swim to the top. I was running out of air when she said, "breathe" I was kind of scared but i did anyway and i could breathe underwater. It felt completely normal. Then she said something to me in a weird language and i didnt understand her. While i was swimming to the top the song "just breathe" started playing. (once again idk) Once i got to the top of the waterfall (a little later) all the other campers were listening to the cunsler and he was having two boys hold on to the branches hanging over the waterfall and let go and landing on their tubes at the bottom of the waterfall. Then the counselor let everyone else do that. I thought to myself, "i already did that!" The girl that went down with me was gone. She just disappeared at the bottom after she spoke to me in the weird language. Any ideas?

Better peice of what im writing- please read and tell me what you think.? They sit on the couch gathering around the coffee table, I join them, not wanting to miss out on what it is. He opens the bag and grabs a mirror, and pours some of the white powder onto it. Just what I had suspected, coke. My worst enemy as of rehab. It sat there taunting me, telling me to do a line. "Yay, who wants a line first?" Rachael looks back and forth between me and Trevor, I had never told them about Rehab, and I think now is a good time to start. "Uhm, actually there is something I haven't told you guys." Trevor stares at me waiting and Rachael is snorting a line, "Well, back in Phoenix I had gotten into bad stuff and I was messing up all the time and what not, and started using, I got so bad that mom and dad had to put me in rehab. I had just been released and they were taking me home and thats when the accident happened." I say staring at the wall. Rachael is the first to speak. "Well, just because you went to Rehab doesn't mean you can't do it anymore, you don't have parents around to boss you around anymore." Trevor looks at Rachael then back at me. "She didn't mean it like that Kadence." He says, but I stand up and head for the door, "It's fine" I say trying to hold back tears. "I'll be back in a little I just want to do take a little walk and get some fresh air, maybe I'll have a line next time." I leave before there is time for them to say anything. I hurry down the steps before bursting into tears. I keep walking trying not to be obvious to other people as tears are streaming down my face. I know it isn't such a big reason to cry over, but I just lost both of my parents, I had to move to another state with my brother whom I barely know and his girlfriend who tries to be nice, even though she fails miserably at it. It's a lot on my plate, and I can't take it. Just because my parents are gone, I don't look at it as "Hey, at least they can't boss me around any more." I miss them more than anything and I don't know what I'm going to do, my brother does drugs, and I know I'm going to end up doing it I don't know what I'm going to do about it. I see the river from the street, it is flowing and has miny rapids, it has grass on both sides of it. It was crowded during the day time, but now no one is there. I see a bench beside the river and decide to sit and clear my head. I watch the water flow down the rocks and crash into the other rapids, it isn't too long before I get lost in the river. I jump as I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn to see Devon's smile, it fades as soon as he sees my face. "Whats wrong?" he says taking a seat beside me, I look at my feet. "Nothing." I sniffle. He knows I've been crying, I'm sure my eyes are all red and everything. "You know, your a bad liar." He simles softly trying to get a laugh out of me, it doesn't work. "Well everythings fine, why are you here anyway?" I look at him, waiting for my answer. "Well, truth is I walk here almost every night and saw this girl who I thought looked an awful lot like you, so I decided to take a closer look." He says looking at the river and then back at me. "Oh." I say simply. "Now may I ask what you are doing here?" He asks me. "Just clearing my head." Not a complete lie, I am here for that, but not as much as I am for getting away from those drugs. He looks at me, and I feel like he sees right through me. "You know, Kadence, I hear the easiest way to clear your head is to talk to some body about it." He smiles. I look at him, "You should probably go find something better to do besides sitting here with a weird crying girl. It might ruin your cool little image." I say, assuming he has a cool image by the huge group of kids he was hanging out with today. "Well one, no one is here to see me, two, it would ruin my 'cool image', and three, I don't mind sitting here with you, I just wanna talk." I look at him saying nothing. "Why are you crying?" He asks, suddenly looking like he really cares. "It doesn't really matter." I say looking back at the running water. "Your really pretty." He says to me. "And I'm not trying to pick you up or anything, I'm just letting you know that you are." I stare at the water, wasn't expecting this. "Uhm thank you." I say, cheeks flushed. I have always been told I'm pretty, but never really believed it. My light brown hair is my favorite, especially since in now goes past my boobs, I have always loved it long. My pale skin isn't a plus, guys like tan girls. I do like my high cheek bones, and my big green eyes. I don't like my small lips, or my wavy curves, they aren't huge, but they are noticable. He smiles an irresistable smile, "Your welcome, but you know, you'd be even prettier without your makeup running down your face." My cheeks turn red and I reach for my face and wipe off the mascara. He smiles again and I smile back. He reaches into his sweatshirt pocket and grabs a pack of smokes, he offers me one, and I accept, feeling the need of nicotine. He lights it for me and I inha
Please read! What do you think? Eli, Part 1 She just looked so lost. Seeing her standing solitary in the center of the cafeteria made me nearly angry. Her eyes were vast, and her face was perplexed and lonely. Her skinny arms dangled flaccidly by her sides, and her bulging shoulder bag (which looked far too heavy for her) was slung over one shoulder, dragging it down. I was almost positive that she was trembling as she pondered the anthill-like activity of so many teenagers swarming busily and boisterously around her. Something in her expression, I believe, is what made me do it. We were not close confidants by any stretch of the imagination. We had had but one visual arts class together, the year before, and we had not even spoken often. The random grievance about homework loads, vague kind word or two, or exceptional joke had passed between us; but as neither of us was close to being chatterboxes, we did not know each other well. She had been a freshman; I had been a junior. We had sometimes exchanged a pithy smile, a wave, or a shy “hey” in the halls; but other than that, there had been no contact outside of class. She did not look very much different from last year, though she appeared perhaps slightly taller. She was still elfin and petite, almost to the frowned-upon point of “bony”. She still had the same nearly waist-length curly hair, the color of burnt chocolate. Her expression had changed least of all. She looked exactly as lost, bewildered, and dejected as she had exactly one year ago today. Unlike last year, I did not fail to notice her. She was just one of the herd, six hundred-odd freshmen who gawked at everything they saw, then. But she should not have looked that way now. She was a sophomore; surely she should know what to think likely of high school? But then I isolated a difference that explicated her countenance. What was absent was the gaggle of her fellow inmates usually hovering at her elbow, babbling away. She had never been the center of that faction; nor a very active participant, from what I had seen and heard. Nevertheless, it was her medium, her anchor. She had always looked more or less at ease in that milieu, blending in and fitting in. For whatever reason, she was without that comfort today; and it seemed to be taking its toll on her. The cacophony of the cafeteria swirled around her like a river, and she was the constant, unmoving rock, slowly being worn away by it all. I could stand it no longer. I was usually a rather reserved person; but her half-fearful helplessness had sparked a bit of anomalous protectiveness, which abruptly burst into an unexpected flame of gallantry. She was about halfway across the cafeteria from me, so it would have been senseless to shout; she never could have heard me. Instead, I found myself moving towards her with rapid, purposeful strides. She did not spot me. When my fingers closed around her elbow, she started violently, setting her curls bouncing. The resulting waft of air reached my nose; I smelled pears. Her already large eyes widened impossibly as they found me, azure and long-lashed. She did not have time to speak before I was tugging her, towing her back across the cafeteria. She looked too astonished to speak anyway. “E-Eli?” She stuttered when finally she found her voice. Like the rest of her, it was just as I remembered it. I felt a little thrill of uninhibited elation to hear how my name sounded in her sweet, clear soprano. Reveling over this, I did not answer. I was also concentrating on being gentle with her; she was just so fragile. Under my hand, the milky porcelain skin of her arm was soft and cool. Beneath that, I could feel only super-thin muscles (too soft to be of any use), stretched over the sharp, delicate bones. The appealing vulnerability of her made it impossible to imagine being rough with her. When we finally reached the table that my friends and I habitually occupied—slowed by her stumbling sideways gait—I reluctantly released her elbow and sat down next to the only other vacant space at the table. I had pulled her close enough to the open seat that I would have thought that my purpose would have been evident. But she continued to stand, legs locked, expression as mystified as before and now uncomfortable. I sighed, and then reached (inexplicably eagerly, though I would not admit it to myself at the time) for her elbow again. Her quick, midnight blue eyes tracked my movement and almost instantaneously calculated my trajectory. She reacted, snatching her forearm close to her side and taking a half of a step away from me. “Don’t,” she snapped, but there was more bewilderment in her voice than insolence; so I did not take it to heart. Grudgingly, daintily, she seated herself. Her eyes surreptitiously darted across the faces at the table, probably searching for familiarity. From the nearly masked disappointment in her eyes, I inferred that she found none, though the table was diverse in age group. I am fifteen years old, this is original, I've been working on it for about a month, I've posted several questions asking about the names, and for some reason this site doesn't let me put in the Italics or the whole thing... And if you steal it I'ma kill you!!! Here's what got cut off: She took a deep, quiet breath, her shoulders tightened, and her eyes glued themselves to the artificial wood laminate. She went very still. She remained so until enough people eyed her inquisitively that I quietly announced, “Guys, this is Cathy.” She started slightly at the sound of her name, then reflexively yet uncomfortably corrected, “Please, no, call me Violet.” I had known her preference for her middle name because the teacher of our mutual class the year before had often forgetfully slipped up and identified her by her first name. A purist, as her artwork had shown, Violet had always reminded her. I had introduced her as Cathy as a challenge, to compel her to speak. I felt as though I had won a battle and, though I also felt a little at fault, could not keep from feeling just a little smug as my friends greeted her. She acknowledged each of their welcomes with a slight bob of her head and an awkward half-smile, but she did not quite meet their eyes. I had never seen her quite so agonizingly shy before. There was quiet conversation among the majority of the group, but neither Violet nor I joined in. I was fiddling with the tray before me, but the laminate in front of Violet was unfilled but for her stare. She gazed at it as if it were a puzzle she was determined to solve, or a conundrum that was troubling her. Finally, I grew impatient with her guardedness. “Aren’t you going to eat? This is lunch, after all,” I tacked on the last bit hurriedly and in as teasing a tone as I could manage, to mitigate the demand in my question. Her gaze slowly rose to mine, as if I had pulled her from deep thought. Perhaps I had; penitence. Her reply was quiet. “No,” she said, and then slowly lowered her eyes again. I found myself desperately wishing to raise her chin with a fingertip. I had had about all I could take of this minimal communication. I was surprised when she offered more information sans prompt, and less surprised that she did so without looking at me. “I’m not hungry.” I was grateful for this sign of life in her, and tried teasing again in an attempt to lighten her strangely melancholy attitude. Between my thumb and forefinger, I carefully gripped her thin wrist and lifted it from where it lay on the table by a few inches. She offered no resistance to my actions. In a halfheartedly mocking tone, I joked, “You look hungry.” She met my eyes again, briefly, and offered a strangely bitter half-smile. “High metabolism,” she mumbled as if it were an oft-repeated justification. “And I ate a big breakfast.” A moment of silence weighed heavily between us. Then she shifted uncertainly in the plastic chair, and I realized that I was still grasping her wrist. Embarrassed, I coughed and released it. She let it fall to the table with a soft thud. Suddenly: BRRRRRING! We both jumped at the sound of the shrill new bell, and all scrambled to gather their trash and books. I hastily tossed my tray, and then rushed to fall in step beside her. She seemed neither surprised nor expectant to find me at her side for a second time. When she did not speak, I nonchalantly inquired, “What class do you have next?” She had to think for a moment; but she did not, unlike the many freshman and sophomores alike milling seemingly aimlessly around us, dig for her schedule. When she responded, her voice was sure. “Drama Two, with Davidson.” Damn. For some reason that I could not elucidate to myself, I felt a strong desire to be near her, to unravel the mysteries behind her silences and her stares. My disappointment may have shown, for briefly she looked dismayed; but as usual she made no effort to speak, and her face resumed its natural masquerade of placid apathy. I broke her silence. “Can I walk you there, then?” I fiercely hoped that I did not sound as distressed as I felt. I rather thing that I did not, because she allowed a small, demure smile and half-nodded. Then she added, “I’d like that. Thank you.” I knew where she was going, and perhaps she did not; for she let me lead the way through the teeming, raucous halls. For the first time in her presence I felt comfortable in her silence. It wrapped itself around me, warm and calming. I felt that I almost began to understand Violet. But this did not eliminate the unfathomable, burning need I felt to be near her. I escorted her across two halls and up a flight of stairs. I was so drawn to her that I could not resist guiding her all the way up to the threshold, though the door was plainly marked with the class’s and the teacher’s names. She seemed about to step into the classroom, but then she seemed to consider my company. She swiveled ninety degrees in a graceless half-step, and seemed surprised to find herself so close to me unintentionally; her eyes level with my chest. She came close to stumbling; but, luckily for her, I anticipated this and took her by the tops of her arms, righting her and like that. She came close to stumbling; but, luckily for her, I anticipated this and took her by the tops of her arms, righting her and steadying her. She was naturally maladroit; never in more danger than when standing on her own two feet. I had rescued her from the flat, hard unkindness of the floor many times, but somehow this felt different. I was hyperaware of how it felt to have her body so close to my own, practically in my arms. I liked it—but it felt somehow forbidden. Not wanting to make her uncomfortable—anxious to avoid anything that might make her desire my absence—I hastily dropped my arms, releasing her, having held her a tense second past what was necessary to ascertain her safety. She met my eye, and her face was not as solemn as before. There was a flicker of humor glimmering deep in her eyes that I had never seen before. That made my heart flutter and my throat tighten, just for an instant. Though she was blushing—the translucent skin stretched thinly over her cheekbones glowing a sweet, rosy pink—the corners of her lips tugged upwards just a bit. A single dimple popped into existence upon still-flushed cheek. I felt a very nearly overwhelming urge to explore the dimple with a fingertip. It was so potent that my right hand thoughtlessly fluttered up; but I brushed a lone stray lock of her hair from her shoulder instead, so that it rejoined the coffee-colored masses held at bay from her face and neck by her shoulders. As I did this, her dark, serious brows arched over her probing indigo eyes; and her wry half-smile grew slightly, but she did not remark. I slowly lowered my seditious hand, coughing and avoiding her shrewd eyes. I felt that I could not share all of my secrets with her, not just yet. “Well,” she said, “I guess I had better get to class.” My reaction was a little overdue by the surprise ensuing from her speaking first, but finally I blurted, “See you.” I had turned one hundred and eighty degrees and began my first step away from her when she murmured, “See you.” Her voice was thoughtful, as though she was wondering whether or not I really meant it.
What type of boat hull would i need? I want to build a small fun little boat to (i exaggerate when i say boat. I thinking something like 4 ft long by 2 1/2 ft wide) it would act as a cool looking ice chest for going down the river with. I am going down the frio river, it doesn't have hardly any rapids and is vary slow moving ( the main problem would be it scrapping bottom on the slow shallow parts. weather or not to boat will float is not a problem (it will be made completely of styrofoam and will be coated with a surface that is resistant to scratching from rocks) what i need to know is: What is the best hull shape for what I am trying to do?
Can u plz read this essay and comment on it.....interesting topic! Is it a good essay for a high school junior? What happened in the past can never be changed, not even by God, is a logic accepted by all. But, some scientists (mostly evolutionists) have proven that they can defy this statement and rewrite history based on “scientific evidence.” These evidences are not based on data gathered by observation, instead it’s purely built on their faith; that there is no God. An example of this can be seen in scientists’ perspective on a worldwide flood, like the one described in Genesis. They argue that a cataclysmic global flood is absurd and that it should be treated as a myth. This conclusion was not based on facts, instead on their atheistic beliefs. On the other hand, if one were to observe the physical evidence, then one can reasonably conclude that a global flood did occur and did alter the earth completely. The Genesis flood is supported by the fossil record, the stratigraphic evidences, and the archaeological evidences. Most people believe that the layers of fossils took millions of years to form, but this understanding of the fossils is erroneous and not based on facts. A gradual build up of fossils cannot be proven and if it is true we would still be witnessing the process. Dr. Guy Berthault, a geologist, has performed many experiments that show that a spontaneous layering occurs with a sand, mud, and clay slurry. He argues that the only explanation of these fossil layers, found in every continent, is a global flood.[1] Another evidence for a global deluge is the occurrence of the fossils of plants/animals miles away from their natural habitat. Fossils of warm habitat animals are found near the poles and marine and ocean fossils are found on continents’ interior mountains. In fact, 95% of all fossils are marine invertebrates.[2] This universal displacement and the formation of fossils clearly show valid evidences for a Noahic Flood. Similarly, stratigraphic (relating to sedimentary rocks) evidences also support the Genesis story. Ripple formations found in sedimentary rocks are very common, and they can only be formed by the abundance of strong water current in a wide area. Edwin D. McKee, who is the world’s foremost authority on ripple formation, summarized his findings by saying, “The chief significance of ripple lamination in the geologic record is that it is an indicator of environments involving large and rapid sand accumulation. Ripple marks on most tidal flats and beaches or in comparable areas where addition of new sand normally is at a slow rate, have little chance of developing into superimposed ripple lamination (i.e., climbing ripples or ripples-in-phase). In contrast, areas in which sand accumulates periodically but rapidly, as in river flood plains where sand-laden waters of strong floods suddenly lose velocity, are very favorable for building up ripple-laminated deposits.” [3] The Genesis flood could adequately explain the ripple formation on the sedimentary rocks. Stratigraphic evidence that supports the worldwide flood is the formation of coal, a sedimentary rock. Coal, has always been found with marine fossils and it can only be formed by rapid burial.[4] Even scientists who do not believe in the Noahic Flood say that coal can only be formed in a flood like condition. More studies need to done on the relationship between coal and the deluge, but the flood origin of coal is certain. Furthermore, Archeological evidence clearly supports the idea of a Global Flood. Civilization appears to have originated in the Aarat/ Babylon region where Noah and his family settled. This would explain the dispersion of Noah’s three sons from the Babylon region into the other three areas: Europe, Africa, and Asia. Also, the ancient artifact we have today date back to the post- flood era, indicating that materials before that time would have been buried by a huge flood. Another key evidence is all the worldwide traditions among natives of a global flood. From the Ancient Greeks to the Indians, from the Babylonians to the Irish, every culture has a story about God punishing mankind with a flood and a lone survivor.[5] The stories and the physical evidence revels a cataclysmic event that clearly changed the course of history. In conclusion, one can see the indications of a worldwide flood as described in Genesis by observing the fossil record, the stratigraphic evidences and the archaeological evidences. Basing your science on facts and not beliefs will provide you with the means of accurately uncovering events in history and preparing for the future.
